July 22-23, 2024: AI, Human Dignity, and Religion: Perspectives on Freedoms, Responsibilities, and Opportunities Workshop
An interreligious and interdisciplinary workshop at Christ Church, Oxford, with colleagues from Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia and BYU around the theme of AI and Human Dignity. To properly display the potential contributions Baylor can add to this conversation, Dr. Devan Stahl, Dr. Neil Messer, and Dr. Paul Martens participated in this workshop, with a special issue of The Review Faith and International Affairs to follow.
July 16th, 2024: "AI and Human Rights Summit", Technische Universitat Munchen co-sponsored by Globethics - Dr. Paul Martens
Globethics is a Geneva-based non-profit in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council that builds and supports ethical leadership through higher education and global engagement. The central purpose of this gathering is to draft a Munich Convention on AI and Human Rights that will be published internationally in the coming weeks.

Dr. Neil Messer has attended a series of intensive workshops, the first two at Regent’s Park College, Oxford, and the most recent in June 2024 at Sarum College, Salisbury.

August 26: Baylor Community Garden Revival with the SCRAP Initiative
Did you know Baylor has a community garden? Located at 1701 South 9th Street (at the corner of James Avenue at 9th Street). This year, classes, student groups, and volunteers are reviving the garden as a center of learning, growing, and nourishment for our community—including Waco’s new SCRAP Collective.

Theological Inquiry and Christian Ethics Through Training in Psychological Science: May 16th-20th Workshop
After running a successful RFP funded by a John Templeton Foundation grant for our project illuminating theological inquiry and Christian ethics through training in psychological science, principle investigators, Dr. Devan Stahl and Dr. Sarah Schnitker, will host a workshop May 16-20th on Baylor’s campus.
This workshop encompasses five full days of programming, including lectures, panel discussions, small group discussion, independent writing time, as well as consultations with psychology faculty. The workshop will be followed up by twice monthly virtual seminars for all the Phase 1 participants.
