The Dual Faces of AI: Fostering Innovation while Fighting Misuse, Computer Science Colloquium
Dr. Pablo Rivas
Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science
When: 11/15 (Fri), 12:20 – 1:10 pm
Where: Cashion 314
Abstract:
This talk delves into the dual roles of artificial intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for innovation and a domain requiring stringent ethical oversight. We will examine how AI is revolutionizing fields like healthcare, cybersecurity, and agriculture through advanced technologies such as neural networks and multimodal systems. The discussion will emphasize the critical importance of developing these technologies in ways that consider ethical implications, particularly in relation to data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the transparency of automated systems.
The session is designed to inspire graduate students and faculty to engage deeply with the ethical dimensions of AI research, encouraging them to consider how their work can contribute to the development of AI that is both innovative and aligned with human values.
