“Director of Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Theology and Ethics.” (2020-2022) Funder: Baylor OVPR. Principal Investigator: John White.

The postdoctoral researcher will pursue and produce academic scholarship related to thorny theological and ethical questions that relate to human excellence and flourishing in the contexts of sports, requiring thoughtful Christian perspectives and deliberation dedicated to realistic solutions.

“2019 Sustainability Grant for the Faith and Sport Institute: High School Theology Institute” Funder: Lilly Endowment, Inc. Awarded: $300,000. Principal Investigators: John White.

Vision: FSI high school retreat provides a unique experience within a diverse community utilizing a seven-day mentor-guided retreat setting, in which empirical research is conducted, and followed by a year of mentoring that engages and forms religious teenagers to become discerning, virtuous leaders in sports, church, and beyond.

Purpose: FSI high school program is designed to assist junior and senior high school youth to: 1) theologically reflect on and morally deliberate about the positive and negative influences within sport and other life experiences; 2) understand and experience how worship and liturgy in church, spiritual disciplines practiced in sport, and authentic community can work together to nurture integrity and spiritual leadership; and 3) examine how the convictions and character they are developing can translate to and equip them for service and their future callings in the “race of life.”
