Artificial intelligence is transforming many areas of modern life, from personal relationships through education and health care to the economy, politics, and war. These transformations raise profound ethical issues, and the AI Ethics Group supports careful, well-informed, and innovative engagement with these ethical issues from the perspective of Christian ethical traditions.
The core question we are concerned with is: What are the likely impacts of AI on human flourishing, and how can we best support the flourishing of human beings and communities in an age of AI? The AI Ethics Group explores this question in various ways. For example: we have been partnering with Baylor’s Institute for Faith and Learning to host cross-campus conversations about AI ethics and support Baylor faculty in their AI ethics-related research; we offer education and training in AI ethics and faith for Baylor faculty and staff across campus; we are collaborating with other faith-based universities on assessing how Large Language Models (LLMs) handle questions of faith and ethics; we are developing collaborative research and public engagement to bring Protestant Christian voices into the public conversation about AI ethics.
