Welcome to the Bioethics Research Group
Bioethics is an expansive field that addresses ethical issues related to life, health, and well-being, with a focus on biotechnology, clinical practice, health policy, and health equity. The Bioethics Subcommittee cultivates a vibrant center for Christian bioethics at Baylor by integrating teaching, research, and community partnerships.
Over the past five years, the subcommittee has established a robust undergraduate bioethics certificate that graduates 30+ students annually, created new graduate bioethics lines in the Religion Department, and led strategic cluster hires in Religion and Philosophy to strengthen faculty expertise. It has forged formal medical education partnerships, most notably with Baylor College of Medicine in Temple and Baylor, Scott, and White Health, providing ethics education, graduate internships, and a clinical ethics practicum.
Student engagement is strong through an active Ethics Society that competes in the National Bioethics Bowl, while a bi‑monthly Brownbag series and regular faculty presentations amplify our scholarly presence. Supported in part by major grants, the subcommittee advances interdisciplinary scholarship, professional training, and community outreach to position Baylor as a leading institution in Christian bioethics.
